The Rule of 14

The first time I ever heard of the “Rule of 14” was during a motivational speech by Zig Ziglar. He said that in order for human beings to begin to change their habits they must hear a message “at least” 14 times. At first I doubted this but now, 25 years later, I’m sure it’s true.

One of the most frequent questions we get is “how long is it going to take to see the results of the training?” My answer is “after the majority of your employees have heard the message 14 times.” That means that if you train, track, lead and manage on a daily basis, you will see results almost immediately! You will have delivered your message 14 times very quickly. However, if you are like most organizations and inconsistently deliver your message, it is likely that you will not see any results. This is due to the fact that it may take several months or longer for the message to be heard 14 times, causing the initiative to fall through the cracks!

If you want to be very successful, implement the “Rule of 14.”
